2007  Poker Run

The Danville Firefighters Local #429 in conjunction with the Friendly Tavern of Danville had sponsored the third annual  Poker Run on Saturday, July 7, 2007.

Funds raised from the event were given to help fund Danville's Aunt Martha's Health Care Network which provides access to comprehensive primary and preventive health services for child and adults of all ages.  The Health Center services include:  primary care, medication assistance, dental care and mental health care.  Aunt Martha's believes in treating the whole person with respect and dignity, regardless of their ability to pay.  For more information on services offered by Aunt Martha's visit their website at www.auntmarthas.org

Registration for the event began at 10:00 a.m. at the Friendly Tavern.  The ride started at noon.  Riders departed from the Friendly Tavern and traveled to four other locations where they received a card.  Once they completed all four stops they returned to the Friendly Tavern for their last card.  The rider who had the best hand after the five stops won the top prize.

The entry fee for the poker run was $10.00.  Addition hands were purchased for $5.00.

The event also featured a raffle drawing for his and hers Harley Davidson Jackets and other prizes.  There was a 50/50 drawing.  At the conclusion of the run the Friendly Tavern hosted a live band, "Good Fellas".  Food was provided for those who entered the poker run, $5.00 for anyone else who wanted to eat at the event but did not participate in the poker run.  Door prizes were also awarded.

This event was a complete success.  We had over 600 applicants with over 400 motorcycles.  This included firefighters from northern Illinois, Indiana and the surrounding area.  This was a 123 mile ride that took you from Illinois into Indiana and back.  There was a $1,000 in prize money given away and more the $3,000 in door prizes and raffles.

Organizers Lt. Don McMasters, Lt. Joe Kizer, Firefighter Justin Watt, Mike and Ruth Sullivan Friendly Tavern owners presented a check to Shelly Goodmanson, Development Coordinator, for an amount of $6,100.00.
